It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to James Bwire, our valued colleague and long-time head of the health centre at the Miwani Centre near Kisumu, Kenya. James tragically lost his life in a motorbike accident on 27 April 2025.
James was a registered nurse and ran the small health centre on the site with exceptional commitment and dedication. Over many years, he provided medical care to countless people: treating wounds, giving immunisations, delivering babies – often at night when he was called out in emergencies. His willingness to help knew no bounds, and his smile was a sign of hope and comfort for many.
His wife, Eunice Bwire, works in the pastoral team of the church on the site and is particularly involved in the children’s programmes. Together, in addition to their own children, they have also taken in and lovingly cared for two orphaned relatives.
The sudden death of James not only leaves a huge gap in the community, but also poses great challenges for his family – they are now without a regular income and are also unable to cover the costs of the funeral. It is unclear what will happen next. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eunice and the children. We trust that God’s comfort will carry them through this difficult time.
