The dream of many Kenyan young people is to be able to start their working life with a vocational qualification.
You and I – WE – can do a lot to help young people realize their dream.
After attending eight years of elementary school, many young people in Kenya enter working life without any vocational training, if at all. The large number of unskilled workers, and above all unemployed young people, is growing continuously. The average monthly wage for unskilled workers is between €40-80 per month. Even in Kenya, this is not a decent living.
To develop your own potential and see prospects for the future, requires practical vocational training, including in the so-called “green professions” due to the importance of agriculture in Kenya.

A Dream Becomes Reality
In September 2024, the nehemia team’s training center welcomed its first 19 trainees, who are now receiving in-depth basic training in the following professions: Agriculture, IT, water installation, hairdressing and tailoring. Up to 30 young adults will attend one of these training courses in the future. The trainees live on site in specially renovated accommodation on the 46-hectare farm. They are self-sufficient – everything is kept very simple.
At the nehemia center, personal development and strength of character are promoted not only through professional training but also through living together, mentoring and a community consciously shaped by Christian values. People from very different tribes come together and are taught how to live together peacefully. On Sundays, people are invited to a communal church service on the grounds.
The training center is partly financed by grants for a total of 18 months. However, the project is only made possible by a considerable amount of own funds generated through donations. In this way, every euro donated is multiplied and brings even greater added value to the project.
From 2025, we will still have to ask students to pay school fees of around €65-80 per month to cover the running costs. However, this will not be possible for many families.
This is why we are launching the TRAINING SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMME to ensure that the training center is run on a permanent basis. The aim is to sustainably promote vocational training for young people in the rural district of Kisumu. A further positive aspect will be that the young people will remain in the region and contribute and multiply the skills they have learned there.
A sponsorship means: €40 per month, or around €1.30 per day, which enables a young person to build a dignified and independent life.
And YOU can play a big part in this by taking up a sponsorship.

It Is as Easy as That:
You join in and a young person will be able to break out of the cycle of poverty and lack of prospects.
