In August 2024, Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska visited the centre in Uzhgorod to learn about trauma-informed education work with children, young people and women. Olena Zelenska describes the Nehemia Centre as a kind of resilience centre for the Transcarpathia region.

A study by the Olena Zelenska Foundation, funded entirely by donations from abroad, concluded this year that 44 per cent of Ukrainian children show signs of post-traumatic stress disorder.

‘The country’s children should not see themselves as victims of war, but as a generation of winners. Devoting ourselves to the new generation is a moral obligation and a strategic priority for Ukraine’s future,’ said Zelenska.

We are glad and encouraged to see that the services offered at our centre play a significant role in empowering children and families and giving them hope for the future.
